    Spicy Schezwan Chicken Fry

My love for spicy foods have taken over my cooking too. Couple weeks back i was in a spicy mood, so decided to try out some schezwan cuisine. And i am telling you, this has become one of my favorite foods in the world.

    Ingredients for Schezwan Chicken Fry

    • Schezwan Sauce- ¼ cup or as needed (HOMEMADE or STORE BOUGHT)
    • Water - 4 tbsp
    • Oil for deep frying
    • Coriander leaves / Cilantro - 3 tbsp chopped for garnishing

    For Marination:

    • Chicken - 300 grams Cubed(I used Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast)
    • Chilli flakes - 2 tsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Pepper Powder - 1 tsp (If you have schezwan pepper use that)
    • Garlic - 1 tbsp minced
    • Soya sauce - 1 tbsp
    • Cornflour / Cornstarch - 4 tbsp

At first i made my homemade schezwan sauce. And then made couple of dishes from the sauce. I tried a schezwan fried rice and a schezwan chicken. Both of them turned out to be absolutely delicious. It was love at first bite. YUMMY..

How to Make Schezwan Chicken Fry

    1. Take chicken in a bowl and add all the marination ingredients. Give a a mix and let it sit for 5 mins.
    2. Heat oil for frying and deep fry the chicken for 5 to 7 mins till golden and completely cooked. Drain on a paper towel.
    3. Now heat a wok or frying pan. Add in schezwan sauce and water. Mix that well and let it heat up.
    4. Once it is heated add in the fried chicken pieces and toss well in the sauce to coat the chicken.
    5. Once the chicken is coated and completely heated, add in the coriander leaves and mix well.
    6. Serve with fried rice..

These days you can easily find readymade schezwan sauce at stores, but when you can whip up a yummy flavourful sauce on your own, then why would you go for those stuffs. I strongly recommend you to try out the sauce at home and then make your dishes. Because the sauce is what matters. Hope you like this and let me know how it turned out for you..

    FAQs

What is Szechuan chicken sauce made of? ›

The dish typically features juicy chicken pieces tossed in a glaze made with sweet chili sauce, garlic, ginger, and Sichuan peppercorns. It's a perfect blend of heat, tanginess, and umami flavors that make it an absolute knockout dish.

What is the difference between Szechuan chicken and General Tso's chicken? ›

Although the sauces are similar, General Tso's does not call for Szechuan peppercorns either though I see no reason why you couldn't add them anyway. Another difference is that General Tso's chicken is marinated in a light batter and deep fried. Szechuan chicken is only dusted with flour and shallow fried.

    Is Szechuan style spicy? ›

It is an extremely popular cuisine choice in China, with lots of people venturing to this region just to enjoy the spicy heat of the food. It is spicy and mouth numbing, and the numbing occurs through the use of Sichuan pepper, which comes from the prickly ash tree.

What is the difference between Hunan chicken and Szechuan chicken? ›

Hunan chicken contains stir-fried vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, and zucchini. Szechuan chicken has no veggies other than seasonings such as garlic, ginger and occasionally some green onion.

    What makes Szechuan spicy? ›

This curious effect was thanks to one of the most integral ingredients in this province's distinctive cuisine: the tiny-but-mighty Sichuan peppercorn, a spice indigenous to China. The seasoning's English label is a misnomer, as the “peppercorns” are actually husks of dried berries from a type of prickly ash shrub.

Why is Szechuan so spicy? ›

It has bold flavours, particularly the pungency and spiciness resulting from liberal use of garlic and chili peppers, as well as the unique flavour of Sichuan pepper.

Which is spicier Hunan or Szechuan? ›

If you prefer a more intense and straightforward spiciness, the chili-driven Hunan dishes are for you. Szechuan peppercorn does have some spice, but it's milder and has the unique component of its numbing and tingling effects. Another distinguishing factor is the complimentary flavors.

Is Szechuan chicken healthier than General Tso? ›

Our experts say… General Tso's chicken is about the most dangerous Chinese dish on the menu—dark meat battered and deep-fried, then cooked with vegetables in a sweet, spicy sauce. Szechuan chicken, made with leaner, white meat and sautéed with vegetables, is a far better choice.
