Recipe: Clean Green Smoothie - In Honor Of Design (1)

May 30, 2013

I have actually seen some really great green smoothie recipes across the www, and they are such a great solution for getting the right amounts of fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and additional nutrients we should be consuming each day. I recently have been reading the book Nourishing TraditionsRecipe: Clean Green Smoothie - In Honor Of Design (5)and Beautiful BabiesRecipe: Clean Green Smoothie - In Honor Of Design (6).Both based on the Weston Price diet that has largely changed our view on what we are putting into our bodies and what we are eating each day. My children sadly have a sweet palate based off what I probably gave them as babies (sweet based formula), but I have managed to sneak these veggies in their systems in the mornings with a Clean Green Smoothie. They eat it like yogurt, so it is thicker based. However, just blend in more milk, ice, or fruit for a juicier mix.

Clean Green Smoothie:
1 Avocado
1-2 Kiwi
1-2 Pear
2 c. Spinach
1 c. raw milk (or organic)
1/2 c. Greek Yogurt
2 Tbls. Milled Flax SeedRecipe: Clean Green Smoothie - In Honor Of Design (7)
2-3 Tbls. Agave Nectar or Raw Honey

Optional Add ins:
1 Banana (makes it sweeter)
Coconut Oil (nutrition benefits here)
Frozen Blueberries

Blend well in a blender and serve up! This gives a good size portion to all four of us in our family (five including baby inside:)) Hope you all enjoy!

Yum, I love a good smoothie and make them daily. Adding avocado sounds like a way to make it super creamy!

Oh, yummy! 🙂 I love the idea of making it thicker to eat with a spoon – my go-to is coconut milk + spinach + a banana (when I need a really simple version) – so good!

Anything green sort of freaks me out, but I’ve been dying to try a green smoothie just for the heck of it. Just might try this one!

Seeing this post yesterday reminded me that I have a super ripe avocado that needs some attention. Today I blended it together with some almond milk, frozen banana and some blueberry and honey for sweetness.

The avocado may not be for everyone, but I like it 🙂

I’d love to hear about your running program! Eat lots of protein and have lots of fun 🙂 and CROSSTRAIN! I was initially reluctant to hop on the smoothie train, but they have made a huge difference for my exercise. I have way more energy when I end a workout with a smoothie rather than a cookie. 🙂
