Solar Electricity Grant for Homeowners

The Solar Electricity Grant, a one-time grant, aids homeowners in purchasing and installing solar PV panels and battery energy storage systems. This grant is a component of the SEAI’s Home Energy Grants scheme, which strives to enhance the energy efficiency and comfort of homes in Ireland.

The grant amount, ranging from €800 to €2100, is determined by the peak generation capacity of your solar panels. Installations of 4 kWp or above are capped at €2100. Upon completion of the work and submission of the evidence of works to the SEAI, the grant is directly deposited into your bank account.

Eligibility for the Solar Electricity Grant requires homeownership of a home built and occupied prior to 2021. Additionally, the use of a registered company from the SEAI’s list, completion of electrical works by a Safe Electric Ireland electrician, and adherence to the Solar PV Code of Practice are mandatory. Applications can be submitted online via the SEAI’s website.

Commercial Solar PV Grant for Businesses and Non-Domestic Buildings

The Commercial Solar PV Grant assists businesses and other non-domestic entities, such as schools, community centres, and non-profit organisations, in purchasing and installing solar PV systems up to 1000 kWp. This grant is a part of the SEAI’s Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme, which promotes the use of renewable energy in the electricity sector.

The grant amount, which varies from €150 to €300 per kWp, is based on the standard output of your solar PV system. Smaller systems receive a higher grant amount, while larger systems receive a lower amount, reflecting the economies of scale. Systems incorporating battery energy storage systems receive a higher grant amount to promote the integration of renewable electricity and storage.

To qualify for the Commercial Solar PV Grant, you must be the owner or occupier of a business or non-domestic building connected to the electricity distribution system. Additionally, the use of a registered company from the SEAI’s list, completion of electrical works by a Safe Electric Ireland electrician, and adherence to the Solar PV Code of Practice are required. Applications can be submitted online via the SEAI’s website.

TAMS III Grant for Farmers

The TAMS III Grant, administered by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), provides grants to farmers to build and/or improve a specified range of farm buildings and equipment on their holdings.

One of the key areas that TAMS III covers is the installation of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems through the Solar Capital Investment Scheme.

The grant amount is 60% of the eligible costs, covering the purchase and installation of solar PV panels, inverters, mounting systems, cabling, metres, and battery energy storage systems. The maximum grant amount per holding is €90,000.

To be eligible for the TAMS III Grant, you need a valid herd number or registered flock number, and must manage at least 5 hectares of owned or leased agricultural land. You also need a Tax Reference Number (TRN) and a Personal Public Service Number (PPSN).

Before applying, you must have applied for the Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS, formerly BPS). The use of a registered company from the SEAI’s list and adherence to the Solar PV Code of Practice are also required. Applications can be submitted online via the DAFM’s website.
