First let’s talk about the crust. Shortbread crusts are really simple to make and take very little ingredients.

If you love shortbread so much, check out these yummy shortbread cookies.

Next let’s talk guava. I mean what’s more tropical than guava?

Guava is plentiful, especially in Upcountry Maui. So much so that a common nickname for people from Upcountry is guavas. Go figure.

And of course the guava jam. This recipe uses homemade jam. Trust me it’s really easy. There’s just something about homemade that makes baked goods so much better.

If you just don’t feel like making homemade jam, not to worry you can always use the store bought brands. I like this one (https://www.hawaiiansunproducts.com/preserves).

And lastly the amazing crisp topping.

Be sure to get old fashion oats. Old fashion oats are flat and flaky and make the perfect choice for crisp toppings.

  2. This sounds and looks delish! Store bought Guava Jam is pretty thick, how can I get the jam to be softer and spreadable so I don’t mess up the crust under it? Also, if I use a little more butter in the crumble topping would that be okay?

    • Aloha Wanda. You can heat the guava jam in the microwave for a few seconds to thin it out or even add a little bit of water. I’ve never made this recipe with more butter. I would think it would be fine as long as you don’t add too much and it becomes too mushy.

Lovely! These are really delicious. Made them to give out at our neighborhood cookie tour, and they are a hit with my family, before the cookie tour even started.
I made the guava jam from a packet of guava paste. It’s so good I could have stopped there.
I suggest a correction to one small error — the list of “equipment” on the recipe says steel cut oats. No you definitely do NOT want steel cut oats. Those will break your teeth! Old fashioned rolled oats are the correct choice.

    • Thank you for your kind words. And thank you for pointing that out. Amazon changed their link. It previously was linked to old fashion oats. I fixed it. Mahalo!
